Francis Crawford of Lymond, outlawed Scottish soldier of fortune, is sent to France as the one man Mary of Guise can trust to protect her young daughter Mary Queen of Scots from assassination.

Yet another of Dunnett's incident filled historical novels which can be read stand alone or as part of the series.

Once again Lymond shines, in this the second of the Lymond chronicles. It is a mark of the great regard that the reader builds for Lymond that when his actions drift into the seemingly bizarre and the quagmire reaches of possible treachery, that you still trust him.

Queen’s Play is beautifully and densely plotted and the characters are richly and vividly drawn, combining to make this a joy to read.

Thank you Mastuela!

Queen’s Play has been added to the merry mix of festive post and is en route to Katweeble as I type.

Again I found this hard going but worth it. I find the writing very dense and have to concentrate. The denoument though was difficult to put down as in Book . I love the history from this period, but have only studied it from a Tudor perspective. Will pm MoJeDenUk as have managed to delete the e-mail with her address dur!

The postman has just rang the doorbell and delivered me the book. Within contained another two packets of chocolate buttons. Thanks Katweeble, but art thou trying to make me fat(ter)??? I have such a weakness for chocolate buttons as indicated by my ever increasing proportions! But, I digress. I now look forward to reading this second instalment of the Lymond saga.

I thought this was going to be an easier read than the first book, but in this case I got more baffled towards the end of it when everything should suddenly have become clear...and it did...clear as mud!!! Well, I think I got to grips with the basics and can best describe it as a mediaeval "who's gonna do it?" as opposed to a "whodunnit!" Lymond rises to the challenge and saves the day!

I won't post the book on to Wiblick just yet as the first one hasn't been journalled. I don't want to deluge her with books, so I will keep it here for the moment and post it on when she is ready to receive it.

I haven't even read the first one yet, I am truly a bad person and promise never to sign up for another ring or ray again, but I have asked for this one to be sent to me as I really want to read these.
