In 1959, Florence Green, a kindhearted wido witha small inheritance risks everything to opne a bookshop - the only bookshop- in the seaside community of Hardborough. By making a success of a business so impractical, she invites the hostility of the town's less prosperous shopkeepers. Her warehouse leaks, her cellar seeps, and the shop is apparently haunted. Only to late does she realize the truth: that a town that lacks a bookshop isn't always a town that wants one.

This book is so good. You just can't help but love Florence Green - she is sort of accidentally courageous, or maybe just silly, who knows. But you just root for her as you read this book. All the small town viciousness that tries to stop her - ugh! A quick read, but it stays with you.

I enjoyed THE BOOKSHOP very much. Now I want to visit all kinds of quaint little shops. I will plan to do so when I'm traveling this summmer! Thanks so much for the opportunity to read a new author. Now, on to my "surprise" from the trade!! I think I'll release this one at my school bookcrossing zone! Some of the other teachers might enjoy it.
