Very interesting story, dealing with gender identity, a concept with which I am always fascinated. Sci-fi is always a good venue in which to explore it. Essentially, the book deals with a 25th-century community whose members change sex year-to-year until finally choosing one sex at age 20 -- and what happens when, as the book jacket says, someone decides to change the status quo. Writing is not quite polished in places, and characters a bit wobbly, but a genuinely interesting read and an ending that I for one never saw coming.
