Bought this book in keeping with the promise I made to myself---to read atleast one of the classics every two months or 6 classics in the year.

Would be nice if Oprah picked this book next, then I could read along with her. :)

Yes, it is about a man's affair with his stepdaughter and yes, the content is devastating, but it also perhaps the most thrilling celebration of works I have ever encountered. English was Nabakov's third language after Russian and French, and it is said this book was in fact about his passionate love affair with the English language.

Now hoping to listen to Jeremy Irons reading it on tape.

Thank you, Lotusflower - I received the book today. I am so curious about this, I hope to read it very soon. Oh, and I like the real cover to the book better than the one pictured here!!!

I'm really glad I read this. It's not at all what I expected. This is a tale of truly obsessive love. I actually felt sorrier for Humbert than I did for Lolita...but of course that is because we are hearing the story from Humbert himself. It was hard for me to put this book down - I couldn't wait to find out how it ended. The author's Afterward was interesting to read, so I'm glad I didn't skip it as I sometimes do. Thanks again, Lotusflower, for passing this along. I will do the same :)

This was an interesting read. It was very disturbing at many points, but it was very well written. I can see why this book was banned, but I can also see the need for it being read.

This came in yesterday's mail. I can't wait to read it.

I'm rather conflicted on what to think of this book. Parts of it kept me gripped while other parts I skimmed through. It felt like I'd been reading this book for weeks. I think maybe my expectations were too high; everyone raves about this book so I was hoping to like it too much. In any case, I did find it rather enjoyable.

I had PMed multiple people about sending this as an RABCK but nobody responded, so it will be released at the local OBCZ.
