The Wheel of Time started out as a very promising series. As each book progressed, however, they became more and more long winded and uninspired. After book 6, although had 7 and 8 already purchased, I could no longer stomach them, and in fact, the latter books had effectively ruined the earlier books. And so I release them. Maybe someone else will like them. I think I'll re-read Gene Wolfe.

During a stop at the OBCZ in Mr. Toads Coffehouse at Cary I found these book (and part 2) and grabbed it. I was sitting with my husband next to the shelf, looking at the books: which ones can we take with us home to Germany, which are not to heavy but interesting. First we found two books but they didn't had a BCID! I was disappointed, because no one would know, that his books will leave the country. Meanwhile I heard a sound in my back and when I turned there where two new books standing - Fantasy as we like! The first two books of an well known series, which I had never read until now! This was a surprise! So we took the books - and now the vacation is over, I am home again and happy with two books, which I hope I will read sometimes. After all my English is not so well trained and it will take some time, but I will try! In the other case there are many interested Fantasy readers with the German Bookcrossers, who want to read this in the original language. So - long speech, short end - thanks for bringing the books just in time!

I finished this book yesternight. This book kept me off my studies for two days, which is quite an achievemtn these days ;) Though the pace was uneven at first, Jordan was very good at atmosphere-building. He has more than a touch of King's style when creating horor, as examplified by the two chapters on their travel with Loial through the darkness. The last quarter of the book set a cracking pace and drew me into the story. Though the ending was something of an anti-climax, I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book, and those following it. Thanks again to starfarer.
