From the back cover:

When a shortsighted congressional committee cuts Op-Center's budgest, the first victim is General Mike Rodgers. But he may not be out of work for long. Dynamic Senator Donald Orr is making a run for president as the head of his own third party-and he's in the market for a strong military advisor. The only proble is that it's beginning to look like Orr's presidential run has a body count. And Rodgers must decide whether to jump on the bandwagon or tear it down-with the rest of the Op-Center team

This is the eleventh book in the Op-Center series, and is the weakest story yet. Instead of an international crisis or espionage mission, Op-Center finds itself the target of a budget axe, and must downsize. At the same time, Op-Center finds itself drawn into a murder investigation that entangles in the vicious world of Washington politics.

This book is trying hard to question the motivations and agendas of the powers-that-be in Washington, but fails to hit its target. In the end this book feels more like a worn-out detective story that happens to involve Op-Center characters. Hopefully, future volumes in this series will return to the international stage, where the stories are more interesting, and the potential consequences create more tension.

My wife and I were clearing out the shelves in the office, and this was one of my books that had taken up residence there. I'm not quite sure why this has lingered in my possession for so long, but it is *way* past time for it to move along.
