I love any story where the heroine wears trousers! I think it kicks back to my own struggle in 1993 to have our school council agree that girls could wear pants as part of the uniform. Melbourne can get quite cold and soggy during winter, some days the fog was thick enough to completely block out visibility of the far side of the sports oval.
Who would want to be wearing a skirt in that kind of weather? Not me! So my Dad took me to the uniform shop to buy some grey pants, same as the boys pants though cut a little different to accomadate a girls figure rather than a boys. They were so comfortable and kept me so much warmer than the skirt.
Teachers insisted on writing detention slips because I was not in uniform, and I talked my way out of detention by pointing out that I was in uniform as grey pants were listed... for boys.
Eventually the council agreed to alter the uniform code to include trousers for girls too, but they made them blue. Go figure.

Still haven't finished reading this, will have to write a detailed plan for TBR over my eight-week break at the end of semester!
So why journal it now? My kids just emptied two shelves of books onto the floor... if I didn't laugh I would cry! Somehow the label for this book fell out, so I had to come investigate which book to stick it back into.
Back to the books!
