A journalist's hand is bitten off by a tiger, and the man becomes the receipient of the nation's first hand transplant. But the widow of the donor has a lingering attachment to the hand of her late husband, which leads to complications that no medicine can resolve.
Only John Irving could write a book like this and not turn it into a comic mess. It was a fun read, yet it still can make you think.
