This book discouraged me from shopping at Wal-Mart.

From the back:

After cruelly carving up the once lovingly cared-for downtowns of Small Town America, Wal-Mart began to sink its claws into America's urban areas (racking up more than 12,000 lawsuits in the process). Now, with the recent acquisition of England's third largest supermarket chain, the retail Goliath is stretching its tentacles beyond U.S. borders, launching a frontal assault on small towns, mom-and-pop businessess, and local traditions all over the world.

Whether you're a customer fed up with Wal-Mart's false claims, a vendor squeezed by strong-arm tactics, a worker pushed to increase the Walton's bottom line, or a concerned citizen trying to save our hometown-this book will show you how to get Wal-Mart off your back and out of your backyard.

EVIL EMPIRE

By what I have gathered from reading this book, Wal-Mart appears to be an evil empire with goals to dominate chosen niche markets. If what is portrayed is true, I hope and pray that this evil, lying, scheming, unethical, greedy, and immoral store DOESN'T become the only place left to shop at.

Wal-Mart has not only driven out local, family-owned businesses, it has also bullied it's vendors. Additionally, it seems to have no regard for it's employees, it's neighbors, the local communities, the environment, the people, or the laws. They only care about one thing -increasing in size.

Please think twice before selling out your communities/countries for a "bargain".

i finshed the book last week and have been bad and not posted till now...

i loved the book, i thought it was a really intresting read, a little to much spectulation and antidotial and not so evidence producing, but im not particually phased by that... but i can see that alot of ppl are rather preturbed by the fact.

i thought that it was rather one sided, but perhaps there isnt much else to tell?

i enjoyed it anyways, it was a very good read, im passing it on to someone who will really get a kick out of im sure... i think he might relate to the author and be able to read between the lines.

but i have learnt not to indulge wal-mart and spend my dollar at thier stores, ever..... and the appeal (if any) in wal-mart campervanning has become even less....its a good read none the less, nice and simple and quite a few of the tibits are very juicy

enjoy

This book is very interesting in terms of the interesting little ways Walmart is undermining small town America, and this is done without thigns going over huge conspiricies.
The guy however does go on and on, repreating each point many times, and this can become tiresome.

Yay got the book today (finally. Why do couriers hate me?)
Book is a bit bent so I have put it on the bottom of Mt TBR. The weight should have it flattened out in no time.

I knew that walmart was evil but I didn't realise quite how bad they are.
I like the author's writing style.
