An excellent and surprisingly engaging story—not so much about real estate, but about the characters for whom the titular house means home, opportunity, love, loss, possibility... Much more engrossing than the recent film adaptation. A great book.

Had seen the film awhile ago though luckily couldn't remember the end until the last few pages. Really enjoyed this book, and found it hard to decide who I felt more compassion for, though it probably was the Behrani family who were just trying to get on with a new life in America.
