Skinny Dip

My mom left it here after a visit to get away from hurricane Frances. All is well, and I get a free book out of the deal!
From the dust jacket:
Chaz Perrone might be the only marine scientist in the world who doesn't know which way the Gulf Stream runs. He might also be the only one who went into biology just to make a killing, and now he's found a way - doctoring water samples so that a ruthless agribusiness tycoon can continue illegally dumping fertilizer into the endangered Everglades. When Chaz suspects that his wife, Joey, has figured out his scam, he pushes her overboard from a cruise liner into the night-dark Atlantic. Unfortunately for Chaz, his wife doesn't die in tbe fall.

Starting the ring today. Mailed to jcm. Happy reading everyone!
Yeah! It's here! I'm so excited, I can't wait to read it! But I have to finish White Teeth first :( hopefully I can do that in the next couple of days. Mick Stranahan is back! Skin Tight was hilarious! I'll check in again when I've read the book. Thanks so much kelwood for starting the ring!
9/29 Update: Starting reading this last night... thought I'd share some of the dialog that has made me laugh out loud so far:
"You gave me a bath?"
"No offense, but you stunk like a bong."
"Did I mention he was younger than me?"
"No."
"By almost five years. Big mistake, marrying an arrested adolescent."
She paused, worrying about one possible imlication of what she'd said. Pointedly she added, "That doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly start dating older guys."
"Oh, darn my luck"
"Sarcasm is not attractive. Chaz specialized in it."
"Grand larceny isn't exactly my idea of a turn-on, either."
"What!"
"You stole my boat, remember?"
"For heaven's sake"
"I wouldn't trust the guy alone with my bowling ball"
9/30
"Actually, I'm moving back to Minnesota."
"Good for you. And they've got no crime up there?"
"Sure, but it's seasonal. Breaking and entering is hard work when it's twenty below. The crowbar tends to freeze to you fingers."
Woohoo... finished... keep an eye out for skink... an excellent addition to Hiaasen's portfolio. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully I can get this in the mail tomorrow or Saturday.

Received in the mail today with great pleasure and anticipation. Thanks!
As jcm has noted, this book is peppered with funny, funny dialog. Also, Hiaasen has a keenly developed sense of the absurd. Further, this book entertained as well as instructed -- on the major points of horrendous ecological destruction visited upon the Florida Everglades. And isn't that what Plato (or was it some other Greek philosopher?!) said good literature does? Only one minor thing bothered me -- Hiaasen paints his main character (Joey) as so perfect, so blond, so intelligent and so all-around smashing, even if she doesn't get passing marks in the "judgement about men" category. I get sort of freaked out when authors create such idolized female leads. But I guess that's part of what gives this book its flavor of zany alternate reality. Overall, I found it a jolly good read and (never having read Hiaasen before) can finally see what his fans rave about. Oh yes, one other thing -- I loved the Tool character. Hairy back and all.
Skinny Dip is on its way via surface post -- to boucli in France.
Thank you very much, kelwood, for offering this up as a book ring. I would have missed a fun romp of a read, were it not for you! You are marvelous, darling. . . .

I loved it ! It's fun, cynic, absurd !!
I was glad to meet the "Captain" again, after "stormy weather", though he makes only short (but critical !) appearances here, and Tool is a really great character.
A funny read, though it was terrible to read all about the destruction of the Florida Everglades !
Thanks for the ring, Kelwood !
I have other Hiaasen's books on my TBR pile, I think I'll get to them very soon ! ;-))
Leaving for Australia tomorrow...

Looking forward to it!(It's also my first bookring participation, hence the previous messed up journal entry).
Controlled release to Roelina, at GRANDCHESTER QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA
Had lots of laughs at the funny dialogue and outlandish characters and situations. Lily43, are you ready? Thanks Kelwood for the opportunity to meet a new writer. I'm planning to read 'Naked Came the Manatee', with Carl Hiaasen is a contributing author, as is my all-time favourite columnist, Dave Barry. Should be a few more laughs and amazing turn-of-phrase there.
