I took a lovely walk to a Little Free Library in my neighbourhood (@174 Fairleigh Ave. S. in Hamilton, ON) and picked this up.

I enjoyed this conspiracy thriller. This is one my favourite genres. The author takes a bit of history and weaves a story around it that leads me to ask many questions and start googling for answers.

McDermott's characters are average for the genre and the story is full of gunfights, fist fights and explosions as well as pseudo-science and history.

Dr. Nina Wilde thinks she has found the location of the lost city of Atlantis and needs funds to carry out her expedition. Turned down by the academia, she is approached by a billionaire who will fund her expedition and has access to an artifact that may help her quest.

She is so caught up in her excitement and her desire to find Atlantis, not just for herself and the benefit of the world, but for her parents who died while also on the trail, 10 years ago.

Through the story she meets mercenaries, soldiers, a secret Brotherhood and a mad scientist. She is beat up, almost raped, almost killed and then betrayed. She doesn't know who to trust and finds an unlikely ally in the man hired to protect her.

As the true nature of the Atlanteans comes to light and the true reason for the billionaire to want to find the city as well as the secret brotherhood's reasons for trying to stop them both - the plot thickens and the action heats up.

This is the first in a series for the character, Dr. Nina WIlde. I have added the subsequent novels to my wishlist.

You temptress!! LOL! Thanks for another armchair adventure. This looks like a fun book to get lost in. Good thing you make sure I have plenty to read, my friend. I laughed when I saw that you sent me two books. I know you are trying to whittle down your stash, you sneaky thing. Looks like I'll be sharing this one with my friend and hubby too. Also, thanks for the nice book labels in MyssCyn's memory. I will start using them right away.

I really enjoyed this archeological thriller. It was as action packed as an Indiana Jones movie. Heros and villains alike, were entertaining. I did lend it out to a friend and he also enjoyed this book. Josierivers was kind enough to send me more books in the series. We are looking forward to more adventures with Dr. Nina Wilde and her ex-SAS bodyguard Eddie Chase. Now, passing this book on to my husband.

My husband read this book while we were on vacation in Hawaii. He loved it and looking forward to reading other books in the series. Thanks again, Josierivers, for sending the next few books in this series.
