A first novel for Nikki Gemmell. I seem to recall listening about her trip to Antarctica on radio - the trip giving her an idea for a novel. An enjoyable read and it probably instilled in me a lifelong ambition to one day visit Antarctica.

The cover says it's "the land of mythical tragedies, the place of ships' hulls being crushed by ice, of long journeys into darkness and death, of soles falling from feet and being strapped back on, of teeth freezing and splitting, fingers dying, tonails coming off"....... Who wouldn't want to visit!!!
