THis is a proof copy of a recently published Young Adult adventure story. I didn't select "teens" for its catergory because I believe that adult readers will enjoy it too. Indeed, I am 19 and think it very well written. It's an adventure story, set in a future Britain in which global warming has fooded most of the country and turned the northen part to ice. In this stange frozen land, a thirteen-year-old girl wakes up one morning to see another woman murdered in front of her. She discovers a piece of paper in the snow with her own name on it and another that she recognises with the word "watcher" next to it. Suddenly she begins to view her community with suspicion and must make a journey south to discover who she really is. This is Patrick Cave's first novel, and at times, you can tell, but the descriptive writing is masterful and the quest compelling. Not wholly original, but stylishly done and gripping to the last.
