To be honest I bought this book because if I was seen reading it in September I could win £1000. I didn't!
I found this book to be a chore and, apart from occassional glimmers of enjoyment, it was very bland.

There are some books that you start and they appear to be quite bad. You consider giving up on them, but persevere and are thankful at the end that you did.

This isn't one of them. Two men, one of them with serious issues, fly around the world giving away money. That's all you need to know and all you need to read.

Updated 15 January: On its way to ekgv414 after spotting it on her wishlist!

Received from Gothmarcus today. Thanks so much!

I've heard mixed reviews on this book, but I enjoyed "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," so I'm curious to read more of Dave's work.

I'll start this one as soon as I finish my current book, then I look forward to passing it along in another trade or relay.

Well, I didn't LOVE this book, but I guess I liked it more than the two previous reviewers!

Gothmarcus is right that there's not much to the plot, but that wasn't the part I was interested in. What I enjoyed was the character study of the narrator. I liked his inner monologues, and the flashbacks that pieced together how he got to this trip.

I am still bewildered, though, by what's mentioned on the first page... It implied to me that we would get to that point at the end of the book, but there's a big gap between the last page and that event that's mentioned in the beginning... That probably doesn't make sense, but I don't want to post any spoilers for future readers.

This book is now available for trade or RABCK.

I've had too many books for too long. Time for deep cuts to MT TBR. Getting this moving on to another reader.
