Did I read this one or did I not?! I can't remember. 'Found' this book at the Utrecht meeting.
edit: No, I haven't read it. I have several of Doyle's books and after reading the first pages of this book, decided I wanted a copy of my own (for slow reading).

RELEASE NOTES:
this afternoon we had a pleasant minimeeting in utrecht, with british bx'er phantomcougar coming over to hand olifant a ring book. maaikeb and me were there too. i was fully convinced this book was one of phantomcougar's... only now i read it was olifant who brought it :) thanks dearie.
the pic is of the magazine shelf at the café, loaded with books they brought.
a couple of years ago i thoroughly enjoyed doyle's the commitments. i even bought several copies for bookcrossing. recently i read something short by doyle which also stood out. so now that this famous title crosses my path i just can't not take it with me.
looking forward to reading it. i'll release it in my new homeland south africa and hope it'll end up with someone who can't afford to buy books.

hmmm... i distinctly remember writing a journal entry plus release notes for this book! they must have travelled straight to the great bookcrossing bit bucket?
anyhoo.
i really liked this book, paula's voice, and the notion of her not always having been a victim. she used to be a strong girl, despite her father bullying the family. or was that just surface?
like olifant, i'll have to buy this. in my case because i don't know what happens after the honeymoon trip. [see following release notes!]

as this was my 'currently reading' book i had it with me to the first ever gauteng bookcrossing meeting. showed it off to pieterb; decided he could take it because he liked it.
then we ran into a journalist. she attended a literary award cerenomy at the famous boekehuis. we were just dragging owner carina into bookcrossing by drowning her in enthousiasm. this must have been contageous... we forced a book onto the friendly journalist -she chose this one- and we hope this encourages her to run a story about the emergence of bookcrossing in south africa.
