Oh joy, yet another tale of yet another twisted loner, raised by lunatics and shunned by society, hurtling towards an inevitable clash with reality. Being generous, this book is well-written and some of the gore is particularly memorable.
However, I'm still trying to figure out the point of it all. In the concluding pages, Banks makes a final attempt to justify the story, but fails.
Although a talented writer, Banks strives too hard to shock the reader, rather than stick to his story. Some of the dark humor is quite clever, but by the end of the "novel," you'll realize it's just been a waste of your time...I much prefer his later work.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Released on a seat alongside the path near the tents at the Brisbane Writers' Festival at Southbank.
Three intrepid BCers (myself, Neesy and Caldron) made some brazen releases during the afternoon. We were very brave - just walking up and leaving books without worrying about who saw us, or any sneaking or hiding.
We watched and saw this and several other books picked up by readers on the seats. It was very exciting - I've never seen a wild catch before! At one sateg, there were three people on three park benches all in a row reading our released books. Wish we'd had a wide angle lens to catch that for the newsletter. Woohoo!
I hope the books get journalled.
