This book of Friedman's (a NY Times columnist) is a fantastic start to understanding the world connections and the U.S. place in it. I read it when it was published in 1999 on the recommendation of a friend - it brought everything together that I had heard about "globalization" and how the U.S. figures into it and how we're affected by it too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READ!
