Couldn't really put a finger on how I feel about this book - ambivalent would be the word.

Synopsis from book:
Christopher Banks, an English boy born in early twentieth-century Shanghai, is orphaned at age nine when both his mother and father disappear under suspicious circumstances. Sent to live in England, he grows up to become a renowned detective and, more than twenty years later, returns to Shanghai to solve the mystery of their disappearance. Brilliantly crafted - a feat of both complex logic and soaring imagination - rich in emotional and psychological detail, When We Were Orphans is Kazuo Ishiguro at his atstonishing best.

It's a good book, thank you Soongsis2.
It's amazing, how ignorant and arrogant Christopher Banks is making his way. Only because of the great way to tell the story, the book is a pleasure to read.

Released on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at about 5:00:00 AM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at BookRing in controlled release, ---controlled release--- Switzerland.

I'm not sure whether I liked this book or not. I was certainly involved and wanted to know the outcome, but I don't think I cared about the main character. The narrative approach was very unusual, this book is written in the first person but it was almost as if the narrator was describing the actions of someone else and not himself, he was so detached. Unusual.

Posted to katayoun today.

I couldn't decide whether to release this or just make a journal entry. There does not seem to be a convention. I went for the latter. I hope that is is OK.
