Journal Entry 3 by libragirl from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, December 11, 2004

Got home from work today to discover a large bag of books waiting for me: my share of the m-bag, dropped off by libragirl. How exciting!!! Many thanks to jamesmum and libragirl!

I actually finished reading this book a couple of days ago, but wasn't sure what I wanted to write about it in the journal entry, so put it aside waiting for inspiration, and now of course I've got even less idea what I wanted to say!
I can't really say I enjoyed reading it - the themes were too depressing to allow for enjoyment - but it was well written, and did keep me turning the pages. I often found myself wanting to take the characters and give them a shake (although given the cycle of violence in the book, maybe that wouldn't be an appropriate response - possibly a hug would be better).
Anyway, I've passed it on to Lytteltonwitch, who I thought might appreciate it.

A very good read and a great find too.

I enjoyed this book and will look out for other books by Dorothy Allison.
