A large novel about several generations of a family starting in the 1920's. The story centers on one woman, Penelope who comes of age during World War II, has a wartime romance and marriage. Her parents, children and grandchildren are all included in this novel. The descriptions of the war years are unforgettable.

Often, I've picked up Rosamunde Pilcher books and thought of reading them. This entry in the *You Go Girl* bookbox inspired the same response. Oh, if only I were headed to the beach. Alas, I am not and I have many things to read already so I'm not going to hold this one captive. Thank you tabby-cat-owner for your thoughtful contribution to the *You Go Girl* bookbox. I read with interest about the other Pilcher book you put in with a Singapore connection. I'm off to Singapore to visit sometime this year so I'll probably pick that one up for the airplane trip.
