Bought in a charity shop this afternoon - I treated myself to a stocking-up trip after several hours in the library for my dissertation.
Like the premise of this - human colonists on a world with a truly alien society. Nice cover art, too.

Quite a good story of human-alien contact, friendship and betrayal, and finding one's place in the world.
Didn't find the alien society as well-imagined as some (Gwyneth Jones's Aleutians stand out). The Atevi aren't a crude caricature of a human society, but I'd say there's a lot of shogunate-era Japanese influence in them.

This was picked up by Diomedes as an orphan. He never got round to reading it, and it was hiding with some other books. I have read it before, and thoroughly enjoyed it - I love this author! But it is now available to go travelling again.
Picked up at the meet tonight.
Sorting out Mt Tbr, time to move this book on.
