This had been my sister's book.
I recently finished this book, inspired to read it by a book club selection. Among the myriad characters, I discovered some who were sweet, some irritating, some hilarious, some tragic.
At the center of the novel is an interminable court case, Jarndyce v. Jarndyce. Lives are put on hold and lives are destroyed while lawyers go round and round with no results in the case.
But the novel is also a mystery, and Dickens spools out clues to the reader about Esther Summerson's parentage and other connections among the characters both major and minor.

I wanted to like this book since it's a classic, but my attention span wasn't feeling it.
