The Bourne Identity

Saw the movie - very good... Let's see how the book rates.
From the cover -
Jason Bourne. He has no past. And he may have no future. His memory is a blank. His bullet-ridden body was fished from the Mediterranean Sea. His face has been altered by plastic surgery. A frame of microfilm has been surgically implanted in his hip. Even his name is a mystery. Marked for death, he is racing for survival through a bizarre world of murderous conspirators - led by Carlos, the world's most dangerous assasin. Who is Jason Bourne? The answer may kill him.

Finally, after all these years, I've read this book. It held up surprisingly well. Nowadays, technology is such a factor in these spy novels, that I think some of these books might not hold up due to technology's ever-changing nature. But this book was written before technology took over our lives. There were very few mentions of phone booths or transistor radios (dinosaurs) that served to remind that this book was written over 30 years ago.
Good pacing, intricate plotting, and a man confused and bewildered by his identity (due to amnesia), who's suspected of betraying those he works for, finally discovers his true identity in the end. And he's not who we think he is. I'm looking forward to reading the next 2 (original) books in this trilogy. (The next one is a trade from eons ago that will finally be read.)

Thanks to the "Ballycumber" sticker on the book's spine....
I was so excited to notice this book at the Urban Thrift charity shop, run by the ARC of Montgomery County, Md. ARC helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To my surprise when I entered the book's BCID it was registered by "MaryZee". I never had the opportunity to meet "MaryZee" but I have heard a lot about her from her BCinDC friends who keep her memory alive. Every year we have a meet-up at Birdie's Cafe in Westminster, Md. to restock the OBCZ shelf she started. I will definitely let all of the BCinDC members know about this exciting find!
