From the back cover: When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory---a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery---a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy.

Thought this was a really engrossing read. Sending it on as a trade.

Like all Dan Brown's books to date, "Deception Point" is a fast-paced thriller that centers around secrets kept by large organizations, which seems to be Dan Brown's fascination. It does follow a similar formula to his other books, but there are fewer puzzles to "solve" (or to scream out in frustration to the main character when they don't solve it themselves). This doesn't mean it's any less of a book than Brown's others; indeed, I think this is his best, with the exception of "The Da Vinci Code."

The characters seem a little more fleshed out than those in his other books, and there is a strong female lead character. There is the inevitable "lucky escape", but the tale remains for the most part believable, and somewhat scary if even a fraction of what Brown says is true!

Dan Brown's website is a fun place to visit for fans of his books.

My wife has finished this and so the book is now available. Like me, she enjoyed this one more than any of Brown's others, with the exception of The Da Vinci code.

She also did a bit of Web research on the science behind the book. Take a look at these babies:

Bathynomous giganteus
