I just love Jeannette Winterson and think that she is bizarrely and unjustly ignored when the topic of contemporary British fiction is brought up, at least in my circles. I would recommend ANY of her books, although her recent The PowerBook holds the dubious honor of being The Story of My Life.
I just finished reading this book again because I felt that it would somehow mysteriously slip from my hands into that of another bookcrosser... This book reads like the way I dream, at times very lucid and at times fanciful and feverish. This book made me want to be in love, and made me glad that I'm not. It is an inspiration to me and has given me a few ideas for writing of my own, and hope that in its release it will go on to inspire others to tell the truth of their own passions and longings.
I don't think this book could have been any better!! Happy reading!

Found it - THANKS!
Winterson is so brutally honest with the emotions in this book I felt like a voyeur watching the joys and pains of the narrator's love story. It did get a little slow at times as there are long passage of description without much action.
I'm sending this on to gaysocialworker. Enjoy!

A passionate, post-modern feminist love story. I first read this book last year for a Feminist Theory class, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The second time through was even better! Hopefully someone will find this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
