Eating the Cheshire Cat: A Novel

The book jacket says, "Eating the Cheshire Cat lures us into a world of perfectly planned parties and steep social ladders, where traditional rites of passage take unpredictable and horrifying turns as three girls and their overbearing mothers collide. In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, beauty is as beauty does, with axes and knives and killer smiles...."
That does not even begin to hint at the twisted social climbing in this book. Forget bigotry- that's only mentioned in passing a couple of times. We're talking about conniving, life-ruining, backstabbing young women and the great lengths they will go to in order to come out on top. Parts of it are rather gruesome and hard to read, but I always found myself drawn back in to their totally foreign world. Very macabre and gothic. I loved it!
This copy has a bit of water damage (only on the first 50 pages), but it's well worth reading around it.
