In the future, most children seem to be superfluous once they finish school. There are few jobs open to them, most live boring, unsatisfying lives in crowded cities, on the dole. Their lives are comfortable, but meaningless, unsatisfying, and without challenge. Lisse and her friends are assigned to an abandoned warehouse as living quarters and make do as best they can, scrounging items for comfort and sustenance. Life seems empty until Lisse and her friends are invited to participate in The Game - a virtual reality of exploration and survival. Suddenly, the players are catapulted to another world and The Game becomes reality.
