In honor of my 400th book registered, mojosmom had the brilliant idea that the book should somehow reflect the registration number. She had some great suggestions in this thread, but I was unable to get either of them (maybe they can be candidates for my one thousand, four hundredth book?).

After much thought at the bookstore, the really nice lady (who helped me) and I came up with something that just might work. I bought two of these books, which shall be numbers 400 and 401 for me, registration-wise. #400 will be wild-released (of course), and this one will become a ring. Why a ring? So that everyone who participates can do at least 1 nice thing for themselves when it’s their turn to have the ring book at their house. I'd love to be part of "forcing" my BXing friends to do something nice for themselves :) I'm bossy that way.

This trip was especially serendipitous for me, as I was finally able to do my Random Act of Kindness for SpedBug’s RAoK Journal Ring (you have no idea how long the RAoK fairy has been snubbing me!). So here’s a big hug for miketrollstigen for noting my “books registered” and to mojosmom for suggesting that #400 not be just any old book. Which it might have been :)

Now I must write in the journal and introduce my ring! So much to do!

note: I'm trying to make geographic sense, but in some cases, it won't. . . I'm also operating from the assumption that it's cheaper to ship in and out of Canada than in-country, from some recent threads. Again, if I'm wrong, correct me :) Yes, this will be a leisurely and meandering route, but I think/hope it's a good one :)

note to Australian members: if I should re-arrange you across your country, let me know!

Thanks again for joining, and PAMPER YOURSELF! (see how bossy I am?)

Directions: Please choose 1 or more (but at least one) indulgence(s) and perform it. Sign your BX name next to the one you do. In your journal entry, please describe what you did, what happened, etc. There have been a couple of requests for Toadee to do the one on page 48 . . .

P.S. I'll be honest and admit, I'm not sure what to put location-wise for England/UK people. I tried to put either what you wrote in your PM or what it says on your profile. But I'd like to be correct, so if you have a correction, *please* send it in!

Performed my own indulgence today! On Page 112, the 3rd item is "Treat yourself to a professional pedicure". I took that as a command, and went to do that this morning.

It's been almost a month since my last pedicure, and I was definitely due :) It's a beautiful sunny day here in Colorado -- blue, blue skies, puffy white clouds, and the birds are chirping. I ran to my favorite nail place during a break in my day (not bad for a lunch break, right?), and Lee was available to take care of me right away. Holly had the day off.

I have to say, it's very pleasant to sit in one of the "spa chairs", and have your feet done. I'm so glad I had a good reason to go!

I put the color in the book (Metallic Blue) so you can imagine how it looks, and Lee even signed her name!

I'm trying to get this in the mail to Megi53 today. If not, then first thing tomorrow. Thanks to her for being willing to be first :) it won't be as fun, cause she won't get to see what everyone puts in the book. She'll get alllllll those journal entries in her inbox though!

Bye-bye little bookie! I hope everyone enjoys themselves. . . on me!

Journal Entry 4 by Megi53 from Danville, Virginia USA on Monday, August 2, 2004
It's here! And I've already read it. But now, what to choose? Will it be the tattoo around my navel, the professional window-washer, writing a children's book or taking a helicopter sightseeing tour?

As old and as sybaritic as I am, I've already done many of these things (on edit: the free or inexpensive ones) and enjoyed them immensely. I'm leaning toward indulging myself by purchasing new clothes for working out(page 125). It's been twenty, yes 20, years since I've bought an outfit especially for exercise!

Ant, I love those pretty envelopes you included.

Journal Entry 5 by Megi53 from Danville, Virginia USA on Wednesday, August 4, 2004
Since the keyword is *indulgences*, I bought two pairs of elegant exercise capris last night: a white pair that fits me now and a navy pair that will fit when I've been working out all year.

Mailed to HallieK today. I'm looking forward to reading all of the journal entries to come.

Journal Entry 6 by HallieK from Austin, Texas USA on Monday, August 9, 2004
Yea!!! It's here!!! I just opened it up and haven't had time to really look through it, but it looks like so much fun!!! I can't wait to read it and find my "little indulgence!" Congrats on 400 Antof9!!

Journal Entry 7 by HallieK from Austin, Texas USA on Saturday, August 21, 2004
I had a lot of fun picking out my entry! I decided to choose page 22 "Start a house-decorating scrapbook." It sounds like a great way to keep track of all the great remodeling, decorating and organizing ideas I see all the time in magazines and on shows. And, since we're moving across the country to our first new place in a month, it seems appropriate at this point in my life, too, which just makes it more fun for me. So, in the middle of all my packing and planning, I'm taking some time to imagine what I can do with our new apartment!

Mailing this off to calicocollie on Monday, August 23, 2004!

Journal Entry 8 by calicocollie from Irondequoit, New York USA on Wednesday, August 25, 2004
Received in the mail today from HallieK -- perfect timing -- I have the next two days off. I've read the first 50 pages and so far I'm leaning toward "buy all new bras and panties!" on page 12.

Thanks for starting this book ring, Ant -- this is a great little book!

Updated on 8/26: I placed a big order with Victoria's Secret. This was fun! I was tempted by the Lasik surgery and several other indulgences too :)

Have PM'd Booksnbeer for her address to send this on.

Updated Friday, August 27, 2004: Will get this in the mail first thing tomorrow morning to continue its journey -- enjoy!

Journal Entry 9 by BooksnBeer from Pasadena, Florida USA on Wednesday, September 8, 2004
Received this in yesterdays mail. What a cute book. I'm at the big finish on another bookring, so I will definitely be flipping through this tomorrow. I can't wait to pick my Indulgence.

Journal Entry 10 by BooksnBeer from Pasadena, Florida USA on Monday, September 13, 2004
What a cute book, that provides an excellent excuse to do something for myself. I read though the book twice and choose the indulgence that jumped out at me in the first reading. Page 26, purchase a half dozen new houseplants. I have always had some greenery in my house, but in the last few months the greenery has taken a turn for the worst and had become mostly brown. The browner they became the less motivated I was to water them, and you can see where this is going. Sunday was a beautiful day so I picked myself up and spent a couple of hours at the nursery. It turned into two hours because I not only brought 5 houseplants but 8 flowering plants for outside. I had a fun day of choosing and planting my purchases. My house now has lots of color. I slipped the tag from the ornament pepper plants into the envelope in the back of the book. Thanks Antof9 for the idea.

Just hand delivered this book to Capopote. Hope it is enjoyed, as much as I enjoyed it.

Journal Entry 12 by Chapopote from Falls Church, Virginia USA on Monday, September 13, 2004
Received a "surprise" hand-delivery of this book from Booksnbeer this evening! Thanks so much! It is easy to be "almost-neighbors" in Northern Virginia. I look forward to reading through it and choosing my indulgence.

Journal Entry 13 by Chapopote from Falls Church, Virginia USA on Wednesday, September 15, 2004
Wow, so many to choose from! I picked the indulgence on page 34: “Buy a new, fabulous purse.” I was overdue for this, as the strap from the purse I had been carrying for 6+ years was hanging by a few threads!

I picked a beautiful, black leather purse with plenty of pockets and compartments for all of my gear. The leather is as smooth as butter! And the 2 best things about it are: 1) I got it on sale, and 2) The company that makes the purse will donate a percentage of the profits to benefit breast cancer research. I have included a tag from the purse in the envelope in the back of the book.

I also want to eventually tackle the indulgence on pg. 103 - sign up for a course, something practical or purely fun – and learn to play the electric guitar I’ve had since college.

Thanks, Antof9, for such a fun bookring! Next stop, Emperor-Fool’s mailbox!

August 30, 2005 - Just a quick update ......... I did sign up for guitar lessons, and have been playing all summer. What fun!

Sept. 22:
I was so pleased to see this waiting for me when I got home after a long day. Started browsing the indulgences, and I'm looking forward to choosing and performing one soon. I'll check back in with an update when I do. Thanks again to AntOf9 for starting this!

Oct. 15:
Sorry to have held the ring up for so long! I chose p. 197 and have been having fun making myself funky beaded earrings. In fact, I made a couple of extra pairs and stuck them in the book for whoever might want them. And one for AntOf9 for starting this great ring.

Today, the book heads off to SpedBug and Savagefuzzball. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did. I'm recommending page 72 to SpedBug, but we'll just have to wait and see what she chooses. ;-)

Journal Entry 15 by SpedBug from Wilmington, Delaware USA on Thursday, October 21, 2004
10/21/04: I've just received this book (as part of the ring) and am excited about finding the *perfect* indulgence to choose. There are so many (I haven't read through them all, yet)! Some are completely self-indulgent and some challenged me with the possibility of indulging a stranger.

I got a look at a sample of E-F's indulgence and am mightily impressed. I also got a look at the indulgence E-F suggested (Lasik surgery) - If I weren't such a wimp, I'd do it. But, alas, I'm a worry-wart and haven't whipped up the courage I need to get that done. I guess I'd best get back to the book and find another way to indulge myself... :)

10/27/04: I chose to indulge myself by starting a gratitude journal. I have so much to be grateful for and will enjoy reminding myself, as I list them. I'll also be happy for a reminder of my blessings when I'm feeling blue or sorry for myself.
Recently, I commissioned a handmade journal by a talented, young Canadian artist and have been agonizing over what to do with it. Ant, your indulgence bookring gave me the perfect use! I'll upload a picture of my gratitude journal to this entry so everyone can enjoy its beauty! :)
I'm handing off the book to Savagefuzzball, now, who has already chosen her indulgence and plans to enjoy it tomorrow! :)

Apologies to my fellow ringers; I received this book three weeks ago and neglected to register it's receipt. mea culpa mea culpa

It's on my nightstand - I read a few pages before I close my eyes to sleep.

Many great ideas but haven't found my special one yet

I'll update when I've found it!

Thursday January 27th - perhaps I have over indulged myself by holding on to this book too long. I wrote some notes for all and a special note for my FF Antof9. She'll have to wait until it has come full circle (or ring) to read it.

Off in the mail (media of course) to my next BC pal...

Journal Entry 20 by Ceili from Baldwinsville, New York USA on Saturday, January 29, 2005
Received today from DMA7. This could not have arrived at a better time. I lost my job yesterday, very unexpectedly, and I could definitely use some indulgences. I am going to make myself a cup of tea and read the book. I am looking forward to looking at all the bits in the envelopes. What fun!

RELEASE NOTES - MARCH 9, 2005

I've had this book far longer than I intended to. My recent mind set made it very difficult to choose something but I finally settled on buying myself a beautiful journal, as suggested on page 112. The journal, entitled "Desire", is pictured here. It has beautiful illustrated and lined paper, with quotes from the world's most impassioned lovers. It even has a lock and key to keep my private thoughts safe from those prying eyes!

A note to Emperor-Fool: I took you up on your offer on the funky earrings. I am an earring nut! and these are beautiful. Thank you!

The book is on it's way today to Rrrcaron. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 21 by Rrrcaron from Lancaster, New Hampshire USA on Thursday, March 17, 2005
I received this book in the mail yesterday. I love all the things people have put inside the covers and written on some pages- yes, I did peruse it. I 'll be reading it in it's entirety soon!

What a wonderful little book. I enjoyed reading all the great ways to idulge yourself, and all the little notes added by readers. Thanks for sharing. It was a lift- me- up that made me smile! Pmiming jessibud for an address and will send on as soon as I receive it.

I guess this is what *Bookcrossing Karma* is all about: this book could not have arrived at a better time. I went to work this morning but as soon as I got there, I realized it was a mistake. Luckily, they were able to find someone to cover for me and I turned around and came straight home. Just a bad reaction to antibiotics the last few days but I am in major *mope mode* and feeling quite blah. Then, just as I changed out of my clothes and into my sweats, the mail arrived, and with it, this book! What better thing to have in my hands as I hunker down on the couch under my blanket with a cat or two and a cup of tea?

Thank you, Ant!! I am really looking forward to this one!

I'll be back..... ;-)

Journal Entry 24 by jessibud from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, April 27, 2005
Ok, sorry it took me this long but I really had a difficult time narrowing it down to just one. Maybe I am just greedy, wanting to do so many! ;-)

Well, I cannot tell a lie. I AM doing more than one but I will be a good little bookcrosser and just *officially* pick and journal one, here. The rest I will file away in my little brain and do for myself, in my own time. I've written them down (there is a limit to how much storage space that little brain actually has, ya know!).

So, here's what I chose:

"Write a poem -- any subject. The meter doesn't have to be perfect. You don't have to ever show the poem to anyone. Just write it for your own pleasure"

Actually, I used to do this alot, just for my own pleasure. And, to be perfectly honest, I have very rarely shown them to anyone. I'm too shy (I know you will find that hard to believe, but it's true). But it has been a long time since I've indulged in this and it was great fun to dive back into it. So, thanks, Ant, for giving me the incentive to revisit an old hobby, of sorts....

I"ve PM'd the next person on the list and am awaiting her mailing addy....

The book was a fun read, by the way. There were at least 8 or 9 other *indulgences* that really appealed to me and I am saving them for the right moment. I am gonna have a good time with this bookring, I tell ya! :-)

Journal Entry 25 by jessibud from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Thursday, May 5, 2005
Oh, ok, I decided to write one, just for you, too, Ant! :-)

Actually, I got a bit carried away. I will include only the first verse here. Maybe I can hold out on the rest, to call in favours at some future time...;-)

Ahem (clears throat, shuffles papers):

There once was an Ant of 9
Who was a good friend of mine
She had an odd quirk:
She so loved to *snerk!*
But other than that, she was fine

Thank you (exits quickly)

I can package up the book and send it off now. The rest of the verses will be in the little envelope at the back of the book....

Journal Entry 26 by mkmom from Bellevue, Washington USA on Sunday, June 19, 2005
O.K. I'm a little late on the journaling side, but I have the book and I've narrowed my choices to a water fight with my three boys and having breakfast for dinner - something we sometimes do, but I always fix eggs or some other "healthy" thing to balance the pancakes. Maybe we'll eliminae the healthy food!

Journal Entry 27 by mkmom from Bellevue, Washington USA on Monday, April 24, 2006
WOO HOO - I finally did my indulgence - and yes, the city is right. I moved this book to our new house. At least I found it! I am currently visiting ant, my sister, and we did 2 things on page 76. Ant bought 4 darling mugs at Tuesday Morning for me to take home (see picture) and I took her to Coldstone Creamery for the FIRST time! I couldn't believe she hadn't been before. I had cinnamon ice cream with heath bar and she had sweet cream ice cream with oreo and fudge. YUM!!!! I'm mailing it ASAP!

Journal Entry 28 by Antof9 from Lakewood, Colorado USA on Tuesday, April 25, 2006
I wanted to put a picture of my mugs in here too! And yes, for the record, these are indulgences numbers 2 and 3 :)

I had such a great time with my sister -- we did a craft project, put temporary tattoos on the boys (7 months and 2 years), had yummy ice cream, stayed up too late, went out for good Mexican food and more. It just wasn't long enough :(

I was just looking at the pics on Photobucket, and I feel compelled to add a few:

This lovely little book arrived in the mail last Saturday (Sorry it took so long to journal. We had a big shindig that evening). I can't wait to pick a Little Indulgence just for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
