Cover Text:
"James has lived with his beastly Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker ever since the day his parents were eaten up outside London Zoo by an angry escaped rhinoceros. Then something very peculiar and magical happens that will whisk James away from his wretched existence and take him on an unbelievable journey!
A fantasy tale, perfectly complemented with illustrations by Quentin Blake."
And here's the teaser from Roald Dahl fans.com:
"James didn't know where the little man came from. He was just there, thrusting a faintly glowing bag at James. 'Here! You take it! It's yours!' With a promise that the bag of 'little green things' is magic and will free James from life with his horrible, cruel aunts, Sponge and Spiker, the little man is gone––and James is dizzy with joy. But in his excitement James drops the bag, and the magic is lost, sucked into the ground around the old peach tree. Would things never go right for James?
But then he feels it. Something is going to happen. Aunt Spiker spots it first: a peach growing high in their single peach tree. Growing and growing till it's as big as fat Aunt Sponge, and then as big as their house! All greedy Sponge and Spiker can think is that the remarkable peach will make them rich. But James knows. 'Something else, something stranger than ever this time, is about to happen to me again soon."
What can I say? Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake: Always a favorite!

Took this with me at the RRT. Will be my second Roald Dahl children's book, after Fantastic Mr. Fox. :)
A strange and cranky story, but after all, that's what Roald Dahl is known for, isn't it?
Journal Entry 4 by Rohrspatz at Schacht 4/8 - Düsseldorfer Straße 21 in Duisburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Tuesday, August 24, 2004
Released on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Schacht 4/8 - Düsseldorfer Straße 21 in Duisburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany.
Got it at the Duisburger-Meetup - grow, Mount-TBR, grow...
It's funny, it's clever written and you have no clue what happens to the characters if you turn the page. The best part are the poems. Very funny, indeed.

"We are about to roll away inside this great big beautiful peach ..." - We roll away in what?! Could not resist ... Catched at the RRT in Bochum.
Edit three days later:
A wonderful little story, I especially liked the parts, when Dahl gets really sarcastic. And the Centipede is something special: "It seems that almost everyone around here is loved!" said James. "How nice this is!" "Not me!" cried the Centipede happily. "I am a pest and I'm proud of it!"
But there's one thing, that made me wondering: the name of the protagonist. (James) Henry Trotter. Doesn't that sound a little like "Harry Potter"?
