A Wild Sheep Chase

going to try to read this one July 04, but if not, I'll get to it soon
quinnsmom, thank you so much for your generosity! This book looks very interesting. I can't wait to read it. I read my first Murakami last year and since then I can't get enough of this author. It'll be on my TBR pile for a while, but I'll definitely update this entry once I am done. Thanks again for sharing it with me.
Another disturbingly enticing book by Mr. Murakami. We follow the narrator in a literal "wild sheep chase" throughout Japan, while he tries to understand the reasons for his recent divorce, the enigmatic letters he received from a childhood friend, at the same time that he has to track down a mysterious sheep with magical powers. This is not an easy book, but once you accept the surreal reality in which the characters live, it is hard to put it down.
Thanks againg for sharing this, quinnsmom. I am sending this to cynnicat as part of a trade. Enjoy!

oh wow, this was registered by one of my very favorite bookcrossers!! thanks for sending it, Ilios! I love Murakami's writing. I'll journal again once I'm done reading!
I think this book took me longer to read than it seemed to take the main character to read 'Sherlock Holmes'. I've been reading it a while.. probably the longest it took me to finish a book. I didn't like this one as much as The Wind-up Bird Chronicles, though Sheep was simpler, it's still tough to tell what is going on in any Murakami book. I had no idea what happened in the end. I wanted to live in the house up in the mountains though! There is a lot of normal every day actions taking place in Murakami's writing (ie: going to the store to buy kitty litter). I can't tell how many times the main character went out for a beer, etc. (mostly nameless characters?? There is a bit of discussion of naming things within the book which I think is relevant to nearly no one having a name. And also, it is just one of those Kafkaesque elements.) So many normal everyday things mentioned gets on my nerves but then I realize it probably evens out the bizarre events to make them weirder. It's like the tea party scene in 'Alice in Wonderland', Wasn't the tea party more bizarre with the Mad Hatter BECAUSE it was a tea party? thanks again for sharing!
