Plot synopsis:
For one fateful weekend, the annual science fiction and fantasy convention, Rubicon, has all but taken over a usually ordinary hotel. Now the halls are alive with Trekkies, tech nerds, and fantasy gamers in their Viking finery *all of them eager to hail their hero, bestselling fantasy author Appin Dungannon: a diminutive despot whose towering ego more than compensates for his 5' 1" height . . . and whose gleeful disdain for his fawning fans is legendary.
Hurling insults and furniture with equal abandon, the terrible, tiny author proceeds to alienate ersatz aliens and make-believe warriors at warp speed. But somewhere between the costume contest and the exhibition Dungeons & Dragons game, Dungannon gets done in. While die-hard fans of Dungannon's seemingly endless sword-and-sorcery series wonder how they'll go on and hucksters wonder how much they can get for the dead man's autograph, a hapless cop wonders, Who would want to kill Appin Dungannon? But the real question, as the harried convention organizers know, is Who wouldn't?
What I thought:
A mystery set at a science fiction convention. Definitely one of my favorite books.

Oh me oh my, what goodies do we have here.... a lovely box filled to bursting with fantastic book crossing goodies AND some fab looking trashy sci fi.
You star! Thanks so much. You should have the first parcel soon I am sending the second when I have enough money.
What a great swap thingy this has been.
Made my day!
Shall read it ASAP and get it on its way.

Although it took me a while to get my head around who was who I really got into this book, it is fun and witty and just a bit insane! Took me back to my more sci fi days of my youth.
Posting to Katayoun now. Will post the other in the ring separately.

this was fun! thanks jaguar and glitterlover. the book is ready to be on it's way and am waiting for Labmomnm's address.
sorry about the delay and it's mailed today and should be there in a month at most, hopefully and touch wood! :) (NEVER temp postal gods!)
This was in my mailbox when I arrived home after a brutal day at work - thanks, Jaguar for sharing, and Katayoun for mailing it to me (and for the postcard) - just looking at the cover was enough to lift my spirits!
19 Jan '05 - This was a riot! Took me back to my college days, when I was in a gaming (D&D) group; and the con people....OMG! I haven't been to one in years and years, but I think I may have to go to the local con this summer, just to compare it to this book (I suspect that things are even more bizarre at real live con than McCrumb depicted them). I'm going to have to keep an eye for a copy of this to keep :-) I'm also on the ring for "Zombies of the Gene pool" - I can hardly wait!
24 Jan '05 - Wanted to add that I saw a copy of her latest "serious" novel at the bookstore this weekend; oddly enough they didn't mention this book on the jacket blurb :-)
29 Jan '05 - mailed to tomsmama

Goody goody goody! Almost finished with the book I am currently reading and as my long standing policy is to put bookrings ahead of everything else, guess what's next?! Can't wait 'cause I just adore McCrumb!
I'll get it read quickly and send it on it's way. I've never had a book that has traveled as far as this one has! Wow!

What a fun little book! Not quite as good as the first one of McCrumb's that I read but I enjoyed it! Sending it on to Ajysoun64 as part of the bookring!
2/28: Sorry all, life intervened on the way to the PO. Book is leaving today!
