All That Lives: A Novel of the Bell Witch
3 journalers for this copy...
I had this book on my shelf for awhile and had Breeni asked for the book for a trade. I wish I had read it sooner. First time I have read this author. It is writtin back in the 1800's and the Bell family is being totured and scared from a spirit that will not leave them alone.

"IT WAS AS IF I WERE AWAKENING FROM A DEEP SLEEP...
The sleigh jolted sharply and my neck jerked up. Ahead in the road I saw Father on his horse, stopped at the crest of the hill. I rubbed my eyes to be certain. Yes, it was Father, but something was wrong. His clothing was at odd angles and his legs hung limp, as though he had no stirrups, and his spine slouched unnatural in his saddle.
'Look!' I cried, shaking my brother Drewry hard with my left hand, but he would not wake. The horses seemed to find their momentum at that moment and trotted up the hill toward Father as though toward their stalls in the barn. I saw a large black stain spreading out beneath his horse across the snow. I realized it was blood, dripping from his cloak and boots, and Father's face existed no more..."
Hardcover, (c)2002, 450 pages.
Wow, I am finally getting around to reading this! Wasn't the Bell Witch the inspiration for the Blair Witch Project? It seems like I remember hearing that somewhere. I'm a little over halfway through, and will most likely pass this on through paperbackswap.com when I am finished. Will update with my opinion soon!

Maybe I missed something, but this book seemed pretty pointless. It seemed to be building up to this miraculous climax that never came. And what was with this dysfunctional family? Holy cow! I'm guessing because of the rocks and stones that the Bell witch legend was the basis of the Blair Witch. I want to do some more reading because I've already found several more "nonfiction" accounts of the Bell Witch. As far as this fictional interpretation, it lacked closure. Thanks for the opportunity to read it, though. I'm passing it on through paperbackswap.com now.
