I read Walters' The Ice House shortly after publication and enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed the harder-edged The Sculptress as well, but the more-violent Scold's Bridle and The Dark Room left me cold.
Fox Evil was a pleasant surprise, because I found it closer to The Ice House: edgy but with a humane touch, and odd moments of comic relief. I agree with the PW review that the ending was a bit out of control, but it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Unfortunately, this didn't get released in Toronto because I was determined to finish it first, but I hope to find a good home for it.
Thank you, again, Geegal!
