Set in Florence at the time of Savonarola, this historical novel is an exciting and interesting read. It was brought alive to me by a trip to Florence days before I read the book. This copy was bought in a book store in Ferrara in Italy. I really enjoyed the book as it has good descriptions of Rennaissance Florence and is set in a tumultuous time during the city's history.

Alessandra Cecchi is married off to a wealthy but much older husband. Alessandra is somewhat headstrong and has been indulged in her love of art and sketching - not something to which young ladies should aspire. Her marriage enslaves and at the same time frees her.

What I liked most about this book was the way Florence was brought to life.

I may yet keep this one..
