This novel has been compared to the works of Truman Capote, Arthur Miller, Harper Lee and John Grisham.
It is the story of the murder trial of a Japanese-American man, accused of the killing of a fisherman.

I found this a little hard to get into but in all fairness I don't know if that was the book or the fact that I wasn't feeling too well. We are under quarentine at the moment as DS1 has measles despite having vaccinations for it. The book was interesting and I think I'd like to read it again another time to see if it grabs my interest more then.

Collected at the OUSA branch meeting at Rosie O'Grady's on 27th April. I've heard so much about this book, I'm pleased to have found it!

Journal Entry 10 by cosmogenist on Friday, January 12, 2007
Finally read this book. It was a slow start - well, actually, that's wrong, the start itself wasn't slow, but it slowed down about a third of the way in and I wasn't sure I was enjoying it that much. Then it speeded up again, and I found the short forays into the lives of those involved to be quite gripping. It also gives quite an insight into the anti-Japanese sentiment floating around on the Pacific coast at the time, and the assumptions that people flet they could make because the accused was of Japanese descent were sometimes breathtaking. By the end, I loved it, and stayed up late to finish it - the final dénouement is quite thrilling!
