A pupil of mine made a mini-talk about that book and having spent the summer holidays in Ireland (and Derry/Belfast - very "impressed" with the blue/white/red Protestant/British neighbourhoods) I got very interested in reading it. Just then I found out that it is "the first of Joan Lingard's ground-breaking Kevin and Sadie books".

From the back cover:
It seems simple. Faith against faith. Blood against blood. Sadie is Protestant, Kevin is Catholic - and on the tense streets of Belfast their lives collide. It starts with a dare - kids fooling around - but soon becomes something dangerous. Getting to know Sadie Jackson will change Kevin's life forever. But will the world around them change too?

The book was first published in 1970 and even though at the end of the book there was a bit of hope, there was still some fighting going on in 2002, so it's still very much up-to-date.
I'll try to read the other Kevin and Sadie books, too.
This book goes out to Swiss-girl in Basel this week who asked me to send it. Enjoy it!

Just back from holidays and it was a nice surprise to see the package in the post. Thanks Deesse. Liked the stamps on the package! Not sure I'll be able to find any as interesting as those though for the book I'm about to send you.

I just finished reading this - it's an easy read, and just how I remembered it from School.

It's now available for crossing again...
