"Macon Leary is a travel writer who hates both travel and anything out of the ordinary. He is grounded by loneliness and an unwillingness to compromise his creature comforts when he meets Muriel, a deliciously peculiar dog-obedience trainer who up-ends Macon’s insular world–and thrusts him headlong into a remarkable engagement with life."
I still open a book and pretend to read when I don't want to talk to anyone, don't you?

Received this in the mail today! Along with many other great books! Thanks again, GrammarBroad!

Macon Leary, author of a series of guidebooks called Accidental Tourist, for businessmen who hate to travel, returns home to live with his sister and two divorced brothers when he finds his own marriage failing as their family is scarred by the loss of the 12-year-old son. The reader follows Macon through his journey of self-absorption in his new life as he meets a brassy young dog trainer at the local vet before heading out to research his latest guidebook. Muriel, the dog trainer, not only helps calm his dog but heals Macon's heart and brings him back to life, a life he thought he could never have again.
Anne Tyler does give the reader some nice insights to human characters and it's interesting reading about the Leary family because they have so many eccentric quirks, but for the most part, I found this book to be quite dull.
