Cryptonomicon

This is a rollicking read, suitable for any curious mind. The technorati will especially appreciate its depth, but anyone with an appreciation of the intersection of technology and warfare in history will find it fascinating. A warning: Stephenson has a hard time ending completely. Set aside your desire for satisfying closure and enjoy the story.

I don't think I've read a (fiction) book this size since Battlefield Earth back in High School. Of course, this one already looks better - it's got pictures (well, some pictures) and it's never been made into a really lame John Travolta movie. I'll wager it doesn't have me pondering whether it's the same book it was at the beginning when I wrap it up, either.
You know that point you get to when you're reading an engrossing book where you want to just stay up all night and into the wee hours plowing through the remaining pages and finish it up.
When I got to that point in this book, I still had 800 pages to go.
It's a great book. I shudder to think how much time I'd spend late at night with Stephenson's Baroque Cycle trilogy.
There were a few parts that moved a bit slowly, but altogether quite satisfying.
