The book chronicles Edna Pontellier and her attempts at emotional, sexual, and artistic freedom at a time when all these urges were supressed by most women. Tragic and beautiful - the type of book you will re-read every few years with a new understanding. This edition has a wonderful introduction by the feminist scholar Sandra M. Gilbert.
