Een van de weinige boeken die me vrijwel gelijk terugbracht in de tijd & me daar hield. Mooi boek!

One of the few books that almost immediately brought me back in time & kept me there. Wonderful book!

Eentje waarvan ik eerlijk gezegd niet meer zeker weet hoe ik eraan ben gekomen. Nieuw gekocht dat weet ik nog wel maar gewoon zomaar of via een boekenclub waar ik eens lid van ben geweest...geeeeen idee. Maakt ook niet uit. Het boek heeft op mij een geweldige indruk gemaakt. Frank McCourt tekent op een voor mij prima manier een beeld van zijn verleden & hield mij een tijdje enorm geboeid...was gewoon teleurgesteld dat ik het uitgelezen had ;-)

Dit boek is mij dierbaar, vandaar de keus om er een ringboek van te maken...ik wil hem graag weer terugzien maar ook graag zien wat anderen ervan vinden. Wil jij één van die anderen zijn, laat me dat via een PM eventjes weten. De lijst zal ik dan hier vermelden. Word je één van de lezers, wens ik je alvast veel plezier!

Bedankt voor het opsturen TinyBear, het lijkt me een mooi boek en ik hoop er dit weekend nog aan te beginnen.

Móói boek! Ik vind het heel bijzonder hoe McCourt zijn toch niet bepaald rooskleurige jeugd kan beschrijven zonder ook maar één beschuldigd woord te uiten. Bedankt voor deze boekring TinyBear, Angela's ashes heeft me een fijne leesweek bezorgd! Het boek gaat morgen verder naar Riemke.

ik vond het een prachtig boek. het leest gemakkelijk en beschrijft in een heel directe stijl, heel indringend ook. Tinybear, beankdt voor deze ring. heb je ook het vervolg en wil je dat misschien ook ringen?

I've just finished "Oryx and Crake" so this book came right on time!

I just loved this book, it took me right in. Very moving. In fact I've finished the next book of this writer, right after this; I just couldn't stop. (A pity the last book was in Dutch, but it was very well translated. same athmosphere, same style)

This one came in the mail this morning. I forgot that I applied for it, what a nice surprise! I will start reading tomorrow.

Me too, throughout this book I kept wondering how they survived at all.
What an outrage, that people have been living like this, without any hope ever to get out of it. Still, if this is autobiographical, it seems that Frank McCourt actually made it.
It was very well written; aloof, detached, sometimes outrageously funny, with hints of what it must have felt like.

Can't remember signing up for this ring either, but as I definitely want to read this one, must have done so in a lucid moment. Two rings to go and then it's McCourt's turn.

This was a compelling read. I wasn't sure if I would like it (must be the reason why I'd forgotten that I had signed up for this ring), I'm not such an autobiography reader. But I definitely did like it. Well written, poignant details, impressive how McCourt recaptures the world seen through the eyes of a young boy.

Plinius actually signed up for an Angela's Ashes ring twice, haha, and she just received the other ring before I could send her this one. So Branwen is next. The book will be sent to Purmerend asap.

Found the book in the post this morning. Will start reading it very soon (Thank god it's saturday).

Yes! Finally I have read the book. A compelling story to read. Unbelievable how people treated each other and how religion was (mis)used to raise children. Makes other thing happening in Irish history somehow much easier to understand.

Apparently I am the last in this circle so I guess the book has to go back to Tinybear.
