A beautiful novel.I read it tonight,in one hour.Jane Mendelsohn imagines what could have happened with the last flight of Amelia Earhart when she disappeared forever. In her novel,Earhart and her navigator,Noonan, manage to land on a small island where they spend a year. Their relationship at the beginning is very tense.Amelia doesn`t like him,and he is afraid of her unwomanly behaviour and courage. But in the silence and solitude of the island the sun,the sea and the need to survive bring new intimacy between them. The masks slowly come down and they begin to enjoy a strangely relaxed new life,a new happiness.

Jane Mendelsohn manages to give us a good picture of how ambitious and strong-willed was Amelia before the incident. She feels as if she has never lived before:"I was risking my life, not living it",says Amelia in the book. It remains unclear if the island exists,or it is something they experience after death. The novel speaks about living the life to the full, enjoying it to the most intimate core;happiness which doesnt have anything to do with ambition, achievement or fame.
