Bryson's account of walking parts of the Appalachian Trail. And losts of American history thrown in. I was disappointed that he did not do a thru-hike.

We are both hikers, so it is always nice to read stories of people making long hicking trips.
The AT however is much to long for us.

Enjoyed this one. I like his way of observing his surroundings and his fellow man.
Voor één van de winnaars van de 8ste Nederlandse BC - boekenloterij!
Ik heb al een tijdje in mijn hoofd dat ik ook een keer iets van Bryson moet lezen en nu komt hij zo op mijn pad, dankjewel Olifant!
I liked Bryson's style a lot, I am certainly going to read more of his books.
I was a bit disappointed that he didn't do the entire path though, but well, it was fun anyway.
I am going to put this book in the English Bookbox.

I am going to put this book in the English Bookbox.
And into Marlene's English Bookbox!
Quite a heavy book, so I decided to take it out of Marlene-TC's bookbox. But I definitely am going to read this. We travelled through this part of the US years ago, but we never got to hiking the trail. Maybe this book will make up for that! I am also awaiting Bryson's African Diary!
I took this book with me on holiday to Italy, where we did some hiking of our own. I very much enjoyed Bryson's description of his travels along the AT. Would love to do some of the trail myself, but probably as a day hiker since carrying a load on my back is not my cup of tea! I will definitely read some more of Bryson's books and will try to find a new reader for this one.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Time to travel on. This will be released during the meeting in the new OBCZ Westerpark. Enjoy!
Took it with me. Curious about it.
Interesting book. Loved the history parts, people who died one way or the other. Would love it if someone would do the whole trail and then filmed all of it (in the way Bryson describes it ofcourse.) I would watch it. I am not a walker at all, but I felt the sudden urge to do this walk too. In all it's boringness (the same everyday) Bryson managed to make it very entertaining. Will put Notes from a small island on my wishlist now. Made in America seems a lot more attractive now.
Reserved for someone who wished for it.

It's been a while since I've read one of Bryson's books and I'd forgotten just how funny he can be. This time, the theme is hiking and he chooses the Appalachian trial in America to do so. Tales of camping in the rough, other hikers, wildlife and his own demons are brought together in such an entertaining way - you also get history, geography, ecology and a bit of science thrown in too. Makes me want to grab my walking boots and a rucksack and visit the great outdoors!
