Spider's Web by Agatha Christie adapted by Charles Osborne - Good
This is a novelisaton of a play first written in 1954 and it does read like a play in places but mostly flows well as a novel.
Clarissa is the wife of diplomat in the Foreign Office. Living in the country with her step-daughter, she is prone to flights of fancy where she imagines various situations and how she might deal with them....for example "if I came down one morning and found a dead body in the library, what would I do?".....of course, one evening she finds just that!
For a variety of complicated reasons, she decides not to ring the police and instead involves her house guests in an elaborate cover up. But then the Police arrive. Who called them and will they uncover the truth, whatever that may be?
Clever little mystery and I could just see the sets and how it would work on stage.
