The Wishing Game
5 journalers for this copy...

During her lonely childhood, Lucy Hart found solace in Jack Masterson's Clock Island books. Now a teacher's aide, she shares her love of reading with Christopher, a former student she'd give anything to adopt - if only she could afford it.
Just when Lucy is about to give up, the famously reclusive writer announces that he's finally written a new book, and he's holding a contest at his home on the real Clock Island to win the only copy.
Winning the most sought-after book in the world could change Lucy and Christopher's lives. But with wily opponents, the books' distractingly handsome illustrator, and Jack Masterson himself to contend with, that won't be as easy as she wishes . . .

Finally a book that I couldn't put down! Unfortunately I did have to stop reading thanks to the Bethlehem Rallye which is in full swing at the moment...
I liked it all - the characters, the setting, the game and the ending.
No doubt somebody will find things which won't fit or don't live up to his/hers expectations - but for me this book worked!

wow what a book. It's the sort of book you don't want to end because it is so good but you want to get to the end to find out what happens to the characters. I loved it.
Characters were believable, the storyline was realistic and not twee and so well written.
Now off to next person on the list.

On Goodreads, among others, I gave this the label "paranormal-magic" which isn't really true, but somehow the story feels magic.
One of the main characters in the story is a young woman who dreams of fostering and then adopting a young boy she first met while working as a teacher's aide in his class. The title of the book is all about wishing, and so we come to wish to see the wishes of the young woman and the little boy come true.
Initially I thought this was really more a book for children or young adults, but as I read on I realized that wasn't so, and many of the themes are painful and difficult and not necessarily adapted for children. I came to really appreciate the story, the characters and the way the plot unfolded.
This is here as a bookcrossing ring - I'll have to see about getting a hold of other books by this author.

Arrived ! Thank you penelopewanders for sending and kiki for sharing.

It worked for me. Beautifully written like a children book but it isn't.

On its way to tklassy in Australia.
