A friend, I found, had this book on her wishlist. I sent her another Kate DiCamillo book that I had on hand. Shopping later, I found this wishlist book. It will be traveling soon.
I had this to say about the book when I read it in September of last year:
This is a wonderful little fairytale. I was amazed at Kate DiCamillo's orchestration of the characters and scenes. The Southern dialog was magnificent and right on, something I rarely say of contemporary books set in the American South. DiCamillo was ill as a child, transported from her native Pennsylvania to Florida where it was hoped the climate would be better for a recovery. It must have been a culture shock for her. Unlike most Northerners who land here, DiCamillo grew to love and embrace the South, perhaps because she was able to understand the sense of humor we have here. Her comedic gift shines in THE TIGER RISING and in BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE, her first book. With brief chapters, the TIGER moves at a graceful pace. It is never as corny as it could be. DiCamillo's fierce comic timing saves it from that and from sentimentality. The heart of it is the tale of two troubled children, sad Rob and angry Sistine. I laughed more than I cried, though I appreciated the book's message of intense emotions. Grief and anger are always in the background but they don't detract from the entertainment of this marvelous book. That said, I'm not sure it's a book for children. I can't think of any of the children of my current times and relations who would appreciate it. A number of my adult friends might.

The Tyger is off to Pennsylvania.

What a wonderful surprise! I’ve wanted to read this book for a long time and VOILÀ, it magically appeared in my son’s mailbox in Pennsylvania with a magnificent BCing label of “The Tyger” by William Blake. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity, 💕Cordelia-anne💕, making my wish come true.

Oh my goodness, Kate DiCamillo, you sure have a way of creating humans (and tigers and rabbits) that capture my heart. I picked this up to read a chapter to quiet my mind during a sleepless night last night. It grabbed me and I finished it. [yawn] Raymie Nightingale would fit right in with Rob Horton and Sistine Bailey. I miss her.
…and this cover is AWESOME!
💕Cordelia-Anne💕, words cannot express how grateful I am for this experience. The incredible tiger postcard with your handwritten note enclosed is a cherry on top. Thank you for your wonderful journal entry in here. It adds another layer of joy to the read.

“When we read together, we connect. Together, we see the world. Together, we see one another.” ~Kate DiCamillo, a storyteller

I picked this book in a library because I am currently reading a spiritual book where a tiger in a cage was mentioned and wanted to see if there were any parallels.
I shed a tear towards the end while reading. I don’t remember exactly which part.
I put it back in the “Little Free Library” where I found it. Thanks for sending it out in the wild.
