Surprising complexity in some of it but also the sort of anachronisms and stupidity that Hall plays with. I think the author is always aware they are writing escapist fiction not something that has to believable. Tropes are used knowingly (I think).

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Quite fun in a people get injured in war and jump off cliffs into oceans and are filthy rich and find true love sort of a way. I was sad the younger sister didn't get to do the thing...maybe that will be in another book
