1996 Berkley paperback of the 1994 English translation by Paulette Moller of the 1991 Norwegian NYT Bestseller, subtitled, "A novel about the history of philosophy." A girl begins a correspondence course in philosophy, while using what she learns to unravel a mysterious batch of other mail she is receiving. I found this copy yesterday in the Victor Little Free Library.

Edit November 10, 2024: This was good, but I just skimmed to end for time. There is an index at the end, so this is intended as a pseudo-nonfiction work, as philosophers will do. It has a lot of references to the idiotic, long-debunked collectivist Deep Police State ideas of Marx-Lenin, but nothing that I see on even Adam Smith, not to mention the Austrian school of free economics. So I presume that the mindset of the book is a bit social control sus. Europeans will be Europeans. It runs long. I currently have this ranked at #7155 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
