So Daddy Dalrymple died of the influenza in 1919. I would not exist without that pandemic, because it killed my granny's first husband and only after that my no-good of a grandfather got his chance.
Daisy tells people that Alec is a civil servant as that equals with dullness and usually there aren't more questions. I used to know a girl who was the veterinary assistant of the zoovet in the Korkeasaari Zoo. She said she usually tells new people she meets that she works for the City of Helsinki and people leave at that.

Devizes mentioned. I've been to that little town in Wiltshire on a bus tour. The rest of the group went to the Wadworth Brewery, but I had seen (and smelt!) the Guinness Brewery in Dublin and that was enough hop for me. I also knew we would not have time both for the town and the brewery tour, so I went my own way. I released some bookcrossing books there and realised I didn't even know which town I was in. And I've thought the American cruise ship tourists were silly, trying to find their way around Helsinki with the map of Stockholm. My tour program only said "Brewery visit". I went to a little tea room and didn't dare to ask where I was. I did ask if they had Wi-Fi and let google maps find my location. Great, because I would not have understood that the name of the town could be called Devizes, pronounced like devices. "Yes, yes, you've got all sorts of devices here, but where am I?"

Finished. Not the best of Daisy's adventures.
The best grotto I've seen has been in Bavaria, Germany. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me.
This is on Annelis's wishlist and my ex-workmate Elisabeth, 86 yrs, from the Academic Bookstore also likes to read these. I just took Elisabeth a bagful of books and will see her again before Christmas, so Annelis could read this in the meanwhile. I am heading to Kerava for my annual flu shots in two days time, so could drop this to Annelis then.

Goes to Annelis on my way back from the flu vaccination (unless I suffer from an anaphylactic reaction...).
Thank you for your short visit and also for the wishlist book, Kirjakko! This time I had something for you, too. It is too bad that there are no more apples.
I agree, this not the best of Daisy Dalrymple stories. I had difficulty in remembering who was who of all the guests.
I was surprised about the grotto. I have never before seen the word in any English text, I was familiar only with an Italian grotto. But really some people used to have grottos as follies! You can always learn something new.
