I found this little hardcover in this Little Free Library in Hollis NH while dropping off some books of my own, and nabbed it for another release copy.

It's another of Edward Gorey's quirky, moody little books. This one's almost got a plot (something of a rarity!): a peculiar creature shows up at a country house one "wild winter night", and stays, inflicting its odd habits upon the family. The "guest" is ludicrous and grotesque, and its presence is disturbing - but I realized that many of its habits are similar to those of my cats, and wondered if the vague-unease of the "guest" is due to its appearance rather than its behavior {grin}.

"It came seventeen years ago - and to this day
It has shown no intention of going away."
